A video has been released showing the spectacular moment that a great white shark leaps out of the water to try and catch a seal. The incredible footage, filmed in Monomoy off the coast of Massachusetts, captures the shark jumping out of the sea as it chases the seal. The marine mammal luckily manages to avoid the sharks mouth, hitting the creature with its tail as it dives back into the sea.
Researchers with the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries and the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy caught the dramatic encounter on video.
The conservancy said this was the first time members had seen a shark in Cape Cod jump out of the water during the hunt and that the entire inicdent took place just 30ft from shore. They added that the shark did not go hungry for long as it successfully managed to hunt down and eat another seal.
