After a long time, Tennis fans got a glimpse of Rafael Nadal the old, as the Spaniard came up with some exhilarating performance to oust Stan Wawrinka from the Shanghai Masters on Friday. Nadal defeated Wawrinka in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-1, to reach the semi finals.
It was a complete all-round performance from the Spaniard, who also served very well during the match as compared to the Swiss. If Nadal can come up with such performance further in the competition, he has a chance of clinching the title, though, other players such as Djokovic and Murray are going to be huge threats.
Nadal, who has been a major disappointment this season, pleased his fans with some solid groundstrokes from the baseline, which left the French Open champion helpless, though, one might add that Wawrinka looked tired after his three-hour long third round clash against Marin Cilic on Thursday.
With this crushing victory, Nadal must be sky high on confidence as he prepares to face France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semi finals of the competition on Saturday. The Spaniard, who has set his sight on grabbing one of the elusive spots for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, need to collect points from such competition to feature in London for the tour finals.
Other results: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga beat Kevin Anderson 7-6 (8-6), 5-7, 6-4; Novak Djokovic beat Bernard Tomic 7-6 (8-6), 6-1; Andy Murray beat Tomas Berdych 6-1, 6-3.
