In the season 5 finale of "Shameless", we saw one of the most beloved TV couples break-up in the most heart-wrenching manner. Ian (Cameron Monaghan) was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in the last season, and it affected the other great relationship between Ian and Mickey (Noel Fisher).
Although Mickey was uncharacteristically caring and loving towards his boyfriend, especially after the diagnosis, he could not agree with Ian that he did not need medications. Mickey even declared his love for Ian – which is a huge deal for him – only for Ian to debunk it with, "Too much is wrong with me. You can't fix me because I'm not broken. I don't need to be fixed. I'm me".
But does this mean that one of the greatest love stories ever told on television is over? Not according John Wells, the mastermind behind "Shameless". According to Wells, this could be a temporary break that allows Ian to reflect upon how important Mickey is in his life.

"It's that thing that often happens when you're younger: You have a relationship that's really difficult and passionate and messy, and then you go away from it and you discover the rest of the world, and sometimes you come back to that first person anyway," Wells told The Hollywood Reporter.
The only obstacle standing in the way of eternal happiness – other than the fact that Ian is a Gallaghar and therefore, incapable of staying happy -- is the illustrious film career of Noel Fischer.
