Shah Rukh Khan's much-hyped film, "Jab Tak Hai Jaan", made a great opening on Tuesday (Diwali), collecting more than Rs 15 crore on the first day itself but it didn't come close to the figures of Salman Khan's latest release "Ek Tha Tiger".
"Jab Tak Hai Jaan" collected Rs. 15.23 crore from 2500 screens on the first day as against its competitor "Son Of Sardaar", which racked in Rs. 10.72 crore from 2000 screens.
However, the first day collection of "JTHJ" is disappointing as compared to Salman Khan's last release "Ek Tha Tiger", which earned a whopping Rs 32.92 crores at the domestic Box Office on day one itself.
The first day collection of "Ek Tha Tiger" is so far the highest opening in the history of Bollywood. It went on to earn over Rs 300 crore.
Interestingly, "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" and "Ek Tha Tiger" have two things in common though its lead actors Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan are not in good terms with each other. Both the films are produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films banner and Katrina Kaif plays the female lead.
The opening collection of "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" is even lesser than Shah Rukh's last Diwali release "Ra.One", which racked in around Rs.18.25 crore from its Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions.
However, "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" is expected to do brisk business in the weekend.
"Jab Tak Hai Jaan" has Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles. It is Katrina's first film with King Khan since she entered Bollywood in 2003 with "Boom".
Produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films banner, this romantic film marks the return of Yash Chopra as a director after a gap of eight years. The director passed away last month, just a few weeks before its release.
