Superstars Shahrukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor have reportedly been roped in for director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ambitious project "Bajirao Mastani."
Bhansali's historical love story which has been the director's dream has been held up for 14 years, but reports now suggest that the shooting is likely to start from mid 2014.
As per a Bollywoodlife report, King Khan has been signed to play Bajirao while Kareena will portray the character of Mastani in the film.
Bhansali's take on the historical figure of Bajirao, a Maratha minister and his tumultuous love affair with Mastani will form the gist of the film.
The film will also have a second female lead portraying the role of Bajirao's wife Kashibai.
The project was initially conceptualized with Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in mind but the director put the project on hold given the tension between the duo.
To add to the worse, even Salman and Bhansali have not been on talking terms after their initial movie together "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" (1999).
With Salman being cancelled out, the director will now return to his former actor Shahrukh with whom he made the extravagant "Devdas."(2002).
It will be the first time Kareena will be seen in a Bhansali film. The director had repeatedly attempted to get the actress for "Ramleela" but eventually Deepika Padukone was signed as the firebrand Leela in the super hit film.
"Bajirao Mastani" will be produced by Eros, which recently released the director's "Goliyon ki Rasleela... Ramleela."
