Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor launched the sixth edition of the Times Green Ganesha (TGG) campaign at Mumbai's Lala Lajpat Rai College on Wednesday.
The TGG campaign is an annual drive aimed to promote an environment-friendly Ganeshotsav.
Shahid, who will soon be seen in the upcoming film "Phata Poster Nikla Hero", joined students of Lala Lajpat Rai College in the campaign to urge people to save the environment by using eco-friendly Ganesh idols and also by adapting green immersion practices.
"I feel great! I think for any actor there is no better feeling than become welcomed warmly by the audience and these guys were fantastic. All the students of Lala College were very welcoming and I am happy that they are coming together to support this cause," Shahid said during the event.
"It's not like we were performing for entertainment; it was an attempt to create awareness," he added.
Ganesh Chaturthi is just three days away and people including celebrities from across the country are stressing on the need for an eco-friendly Ganesh festival this year.
Actress Jacqueline Fernandez also urged people to use "Eco-Ganesha idols to create awareness and make people conscious towards our environment," according to DNA news.
"Environmental conservation to me is using our resources wisely and responsibly. It's really sad how we say we are developing and moving forward at the cost of our environment. It's so important to pay attention to these things because if we use up our natural resources we will eventually run out of them," she added.
