It's a clash of titans this Eid at the India box office with Shahrukh Khan's "Chennai Express" and Akshay Kumar's "Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again" both releasing on the same day.
During Diwali last year, it was Shah Rukh's "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" vs Ajay Devgn's "Son of Sardaar" at the box aoffice, and it was SRK who had won the battle.
This year will also see a box office battle between two superstars for the top slot during Eid. SRK's "Chennai Express" will be in neck-to-neck competition with Akshay Kumar's "Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again".
"Chennai Express" is a masala love story and action film directed by Rohit Shetty featuring SRK and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles. The Milan Luthria directorial project "Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again", an action drama about gangsters in Mumbai, also features Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha.
"OUATIM 2" is a sequel to 2010's film "Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai" which was declared a super hit at the BO. "OUATIM 2" is one of the most awaited films of the year, as it features action king Akshay.
Last year, Akshay had given back-to-back hits starting with "Rowdy Rathore" and this year he has already one hit film - "Special 26". Also, Milan Lutharia's last film as director was "Dirty Picture" which was declared a blockbuster.
"Chennai Express" is also one of the most anticipated films of the year, as it is the first project where SRK and Shetty are working together. Also, the lead pair - SRK and Deepika - are teaming up for the silver screen after five years.
As in Diwali last year, the badshaah of Bollywood had won the race against Ajay at box office. And this year also, the actor is leaving no stone unturned for the upcoming rom-com. Rohit Shetty, who is one of the most sought after directors, made a hattrick with three hits films - "Singham", "Golmaal 3" and "Bol Bachchan". So it is no surprise that his upcoming project is the most expected one.
Interestingly, Rohit and Akshay are facing each other for the third time and the director is already two points ahead of Akshay.
In 2009, Shetty came out with "All the Best" and Akshay with "Blue". And the verdict was "Blue" bombed while "All the Best" made it to the top.
A year later, Shetty's "Golmaal" was released with Akshay's "Action Replayy". While, "Action Replayy" turned out to be a flop, "Golmaal" made it to ₹100 crore club.
Looking at the score card, SRK and Shetty have an advantage over Akki. But it remains to be seen which of the two actors - SRK and Akki - will score box office success this Eid.
