Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan turned 46 on Wednesday and celebrated his birthday while in a plane, 30,000 feet in the air.
The actor, who has only recently returned from a trip to Los Angeles, wrote on his Twitter page: "thanx so much boys & girls. celebrated my birthday in the plane 30000 ft in the air...then on the tarmac...finally with my lil girl & boy."
SRK, who lost both his parents early in life, was reportedly touched by the number of fans thronging the outside of his house. He wrote: "Was so touched when i reached home from bathing..sooo many ppl waiting outside the house and sang happy birthday for me.had tears in my eyes."
He was born in 1965 to Muslim parents, Taj Mohammed Khan and Lateef Fatima, of Pathani ancestry. Shah Rukh Khan's father was a freedom fighter and his mother was the adopted daughter of Maj. Gen. Shah Nawaz Khan, who served as a general in the Indian National Army. The young Khan completed his schooling in Delhi, attending St. Columbia School, studied for his bachelor's degree in Economic (Hons.) from Hansraj College and then joined Jamia Millia Islamia to read for a master's degree in Mass Communication.
In 1991, he moved to Mumbai and made his Bollywood debut in 1992, with Raj Kanwar's "Deewana". He was recognized with the "Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut" and became famous after the success of "Baazigar" (1993). Since then, he has acted in more than 70 productions.
The actor, in 2008, was named as one of the 50 Most Powerful People in the world, by Newsweek magazine.

In a career spanning nine years, Shah Rukh Khan has received various awards, including the Padma Shri in 2005, for his contributions to Indian cinema. In April 2007, a life-size wax statue of Khan was installed at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in London.
