It seems that viewers' hopes of a reunion between Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on the big screen will not be fulfilled in the near future.
As per earlier reports, rumours were rife that filmmaker Farah Khan had planned to take off with her next venture titled "Happy New Year" which would reunite Aishwarya and Shah Rukh after a gap of 11 years. They were last seen together in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Devdas". It was said that Farah had signed buddy Shah Rukh for the film and had approached Aishwarya for the project. Even Shah Rukh's "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" co-star Katrina Kaif was considered for the lead role.
Recent reports state that although SRK has been finalised for the male lead, the decision regarding the female lead remains ambivalent. According to reports, several actresses including Sonakshi Sinha and Parineeti Chopra are being considered to play SRK's co-star.
Farah is reportedly still on a search for the right face which would fit well for her project. It is also rumoured that the 48-year-old director is considering the possibility of pairing Shah Rukh opposite with a newcomer for the movie.
"Happy New Year", which is based on a story about friendship, will also feature, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani and south Indian actor Prithviraj Sukumaran, according to reports.
Recently, on asking whether he was offered a role in "Happy New Year" Prithviraj said, "I had an informal meeting with Farah. She told me the premise of the film she is doing. And I have not read the script yet, no concrete offer has been made to me," Press Trust Of India reported.
"I have not said ok to it officially. So nothing is concrete and confirmed. It was a very vague premise that she told me but it was very funny and exciting," he added.
