Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has crossed 16 million followers on Twitter, beating Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
SRK is now the second-most-followed Indian on the micro-blogging site, Amitabh Bachchan being on top with 17.6 million followers, while Modi is in the third position with 15.8 million.
Shah Rukh, one of the most active Bollywood superstars on Twitter, joined the micro-blogging site in 3 January, 2010.
Soon after the "Dilwale" actor became the second-most-followed Indian on Twitter, his fans made the hashtag #SRK16Million trend to celebrate his popularity.
Shah Rukh recently celebrated his 50th birthday by gifting the teaser of his upcoming film "Fan", and now, King Khan's own real-life fans have given him a return gift by making him the second-most-followed Indian in the virtual world. Shah Rukh is one of the most popular celebrities not only in India but abroad.
Apart from his upcoming movies "Dilwale", "Fan" and "Raees", Shah Rukh has been in the news these days for his comment on intolerance in India.
SRK said the "rising intolerance" in India would push the nation backwards, and this remark was followed by some very strong criticism from some politicians of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government.
Some BJP politicians called the actor "anti-Indian", "Pakistani agent" and he was even compared with terrorist Hafiz Saeed. However, the BJP distanced itself from the comments.
