Security at Tihar jail in New Delhi has been beefed up after intelligence inputs indicated the possibility of suicide attacks by Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) to free jailed terrorists.
"Tihar houses many hardcore terrorists and other high-profile inmates, their security remains our priority. There are reports that attacks may be carried out to release Pakistani terrorists lodged in here. Security has been enhanced and tight vigil is being kept on every movement within and outside the jail," said a source at the jail.
The three-layered security at the Tihar jail was already scaled up on Thursday after intelligence reports suggested that 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Muhammad Saeed has allegedly planned to target India, especially two hotels in the capital and on the Delhi-Agra highway.
"Following the high alert in the capital, the security of the jail has been increased by several notches. No risk will be taken as far as the security of the inmates and the prison is concerned," said DIG Mukesh Prasad.
The largest prison of South Asia, Tihar jail houses 17 Pakistanis along with Indian politicians and businessmen including, Ex Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala and Sahara chief Subrata Roy.
