Search for missing Malaysia Airlines plane continues

Malaysia, March 09 (ANI): Search operations for a missing Malaysia Airlines flight that vanished from radar screens over the South China Sea with 227 passengers and 12 crew on board continued on Sunday. By the early hours of Sunday, there were no confirmed signs of the plane or any wreckage, well over 24 hours after it went missing. Vietnamese navy ships reached two oil slicks which were spotted earlier, but found nothing. There were no indications of sabotage or claims of an attack too. But the passenger manifest issued by the airline included the names of two Europeans - Austrian Christian Kozel and Italian Luigi Maraldi - who, according to their foreign ministries, were not in fact on the plane. Both the Austrian and Italian men claimed they lost their passports in Thailand two years ago and in 2013 respectively. Mar 9, 2014

People were protesting against fraudulent chit fund companies in the state and also threatened to boycott upcoming general elections, if action is not taken in this regard. Over two lakh investors from different parts of northern Bengal, who have invested 433 crore rupees, are demanding arrest of owners of all chit fund companies. Protesters alleged that they invested in companies after getting assurance from the state government, but now they are not taking any stringent actions. The Saradha Group went bust in April 2013, wiping out crores of rupees in deposits from mostly low-income Indians, miring West Bengal's government in scandal, and illustrating the risks faced by the millions who live outside the banking system. Government to set up inflation target, RBI to implement: Chidambaram

New Delhi, March 07 (ANI): Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram asserted on Friday that the government has the right set up an inflation target while the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) role is to implement the decision. The comment by Chidambaram comes after a RBI panel in January proposed moving to an inflation target of 4 percent in three years, with a 2 percent band on either side when setting monetary policy, sharply below current levels. The recommendation raised concerns about a potential clash with the traditionally more pro-growth finance ministry, which were further reinforced after RBI surprised investors in January by raising interest rates by a quarter percentage point, its third hike in five months. Chidambaram made it clear that parliament will set an inflation target and entrust the central bank to implement the propositions. Mar 7, 2014
