New Delhi/Imphal, Aug 27 (ANI): Medal winners of the recently concluded Glasgow Commonwealth games were recently felicitated by Ministry of Sports at a function at Vigyan Bhawan in Capital New Delhi. Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju and former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar handed over the memento and prize money to the award winning players. India finished at the 5th position by winning 64 medals. The Manipur government also felicitated the commonwealth games participants from the state in a function at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Imphal. While weightlifting gold medalist Sanjita Khumukcham received Rs.15 Lakh, bronze medal winner in Judo Kalpana Thoudam received Rs.8 lakh. 6 silver medalists- Mirabai Saikhom Chanu in weight lifting, Sushila Likmabam in Judo, Sarita Laishram and Devendro Laishram in boxing and Kangujam Chinglensana and Kotharjit Kadangbam in hockey received Rs 10 lakh each. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) decided to grant the security status to BJP MLA Som. The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to raise Som's security cover following intelligence reports of threat to his life. Sushma Swaraj meets Vietnam's President to boost relationship between two nations

Hanoi, Aug 26 (ANI): Foreign Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met Vietnam's President Truong Tan Sang and discussed various issues to boost the relationship between both the nations. Swaraj, who is on a three-day visit to the country, met Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh. In an interview with Indian media in Hanoi on August 24, Swaraj said that it was time to replace India's "Look East policy", that aims to link the country's northeast with South East Asia, with an "Act East Policy." Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said both the leaders discussed on enhancing bilateral trade. Swaraj also met Vietnam's Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung. The two countries co-operate in defence, security, pharmaceuticals and agriculture. During her visit, Swaraj is also expected to chair the third round-table of the ASEAN-India Network of think tanks. Craftsmen from Africa get training to make bamboo products in Tripura

Tripura, Aug 24 (ANI): A total of 36 trainees are undergoing two-week long training in bamboo art and skill development at Bamboo and Cane Development Institute (BCDI) in Tripura. Eleven artisans are from Ethiopia and 25 trainees are local tribals who are getting a chance to enhance their skills through exchange of ideas. The training program is being organized by the Development Commissioner Handicraft under Ministry of Textiles as a part of the African-Indian Forum for capacity building training programme. Tripura has the largest skill base of bamboo artisans producing a variety of products. The trainees learn to make bamboo baskets, furniture and other products. The trainees are quite happy to learn new bamboo crafts and designs under the guidance of master trainers from Tripura. Aug 24, 2014

Oil Minister aims to expand PNG system to maximum for household by 2022

Mumbai, Aug 24 (ANI): Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday said that the ministry is aiming to expand PNG (Piped Natural Gas) system to households to the maximum by 2022. He said that the ministry had a meeting over the same and is ready to start the works for the same in order to achieve the goal. He advocated about the system saying that the gas is more safe, economical and eco friendly. Pradhan said that the same would be tried to the maximum and is hopefully to cover 70 per cent of the household and the rest of the gap could be filled up by the LPG.
