India-Bangladesh launch Joint Retreat Ceremony on eastern international border

West Bengal, Nov 07 (ANI): India and Bangladesh launched a Joint Retreat Ceremony at the Petrapole-Benapole border outpost at the eastern international border. Petrapole is located some 120-km north of Kolkata in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. Benapole is the Bangladeshi side of the border. The ceremony includes parades, march-past and lowering of the national flag of both the countries and will henceforth be a daily routine, at sundown, on the eastern border. Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, who attended the Ceremony, said Bangladesh and India share the same culture and heritage and the Joint Retreat will help both countries strengthen their ties. Shinde also said taht India has already initiated steps to simplify visa rules for businessmen, students and those seeking medical treatment as well as signing of the Extradition treaties. The main theme of the event, where pictures were put up, was "Pause, Rewind and Play". The NSUD was established in 1963. India slams Sri Lanka for unilateral stand on issue of human rights violations

Chennai, Nov 02 (ANI): Union Finance Minister, P Chidambaram on Saturday slammed Sri Lankan government for its unilateral stand on the issue of human rights violations, amid speculations of Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh's participation in the Commonwealth Heads Meeting in Colombo. Chidambaram met DMK chief M Karunanidhi in Chennai to discuss about Singh participating in the meeting. Chidambaram said that human rights violations should be thoroughly investigated. Earlier on October 24, the government of Tamil Nadu moved a resolution in the state assembly, demanding India to boycott the meet in Colombo as a mark of protest against the war crimes committed by Sri Lankan regime on Tamils.
