India, Japan to enhance strategic partnership for growth and development

Gurgaon, Nov 12 (ANI): Union Foreign Minister, Salman Khurshid met his Japanese counterpart, Fumio Kishida on the sidelines of ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting), as they came together to enhance bilateral ties and improve strategic partnership for growth and development. This is for the first time India is hosting an ASEM Foreign Ministers meeting, which was inaugurated by Vice-President Hamid Ansari on the outskirts of New Delhi in Gurgaon. Khurshid will chair the meeting and the theme of this year is 'ASEM- Bridge to partnership for growth and development.' The dialogue forum between representatives of Asian and European countries is expected to discuss a wide rage of issues between Asia and Europe and reinvigorate the platform to achieve tangible results in various fields.

New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad on Monday said that his party has approached the Election Commission complaining that BJP's chief Ministerial candidate for Delhi Dr. Harsh Vardhan had made distorted claims on polio eradication. Congress is demanding cancellation of Dr Vardhan's nomination alleging that he has made wrong claims on polio eradication when he was the union health minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's cabinet.

India warns chronic defaulters of service tax

Chennai, Nov 09 (ANI): Union Finance Minister, P Chidambaram, has warned tax defaulters of service tax and urged the non-filers to take advantage of the scheme that waives interest and other penalties. The Finance Minister was speaking at an interactive session on Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme (VCES) - 2013 in Chennai on Saturday and called on non-payers to come clean before December 31, 2013. Under VCES - 2013, an Indian government amnesty scheme, one is offered a chance to make onetime payment of service tax dues for the period of October 1, 2007 to December 31, 2012, without interest and penalty.
