Muslims demand reconstruction of Mosque on Babri demolition anniversary

Ayodhya/Chennai, Dec 6 (ANI): Muslims on Saturday protested in demand for the reconstruction of the Babri Masjid on the 22nd anniversary of the mosque demolition, an incident that had triggered communal riots in the country. The 1992 demolition of the 16th century mosque in Ayodhya by Hindu mobs had triggered worst riots in which about 2,000 people were killed. Many Hindu organisations, especially Vishwa Hindu Parishad, observe it as a day of victory while Muslim organisations call it a black day. A protester, Maulana Jameer, demanded that the government should rebuild the demolished mosque. About 10,000 security personnel have been deployed in the city along with imposition of prohibitory orders. Anti-riot personnel are maintaining strict vigil in Ayodhya and Faizabad. Moreover, two dozen CCTV cameras have also been installed across city. Hindus regard Ayodhya as the birth place of Lord Rama. On December 6, 1992, a mob of Hindu religious volunteers demolished the Babri mosque allegedly been built by the Mughal ruler Babar in the sixteenth century at a place where Lord Ram temple existed. Residents await justice ahead of 22nd anniversary of Babri mosque demolition in Ayodhya

Ayodhya, Dec 05 (ANI): Residents of the Ayodhya city of Uttar Pradesh await justice ahead of the 22nd anniversary of the demolition of the Babri mosque which triggered massive communal riots causing immense loss of life and property in the ensuing violence. On Wednesday (December 03), a litigator, Mohammad Hashim Ansari, who had filed a petition in the case more than 60 years ago, withdrew it. As per media sources, Ansari said the deity concerned (Lord Rama) is placed in makeshift camps, whereas those playing politics are living in bungalows. Ansari on Thursday said that he did not expect the government to take any decision in favour of his community. Meanwhile, a Hindu priest, Nirmohiya said that temples in Lord Ram's reported birthplace were left derelict, without holy offerings and devotional prayers. The Supreme Court on Monday had again question Srinivasan on spot-fixing and betting case. The Mudgal Committee, headed by Justice (retired) Mukul Mudgal, appointed to probe the IPL match fixing scam, submitted its final report to the Supreme Court on November 03. Srinivasan, who was attending an International Cricket Council (ICC) event in Chennai refused to comment when asked by the reporters about his role in the scam.
