Police on alert for upcoming assembly polls in Kashmir

Kathua, Sep 03 (ANI): Police beefed up security to ensure safe and smooth conducting of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, said a senior official on Wednesday. While inaugurating a hostel in Kathua district, Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajendra Kumar said with strict vigil of security forces, several elections in the past have taken place peacefully. He added that the upcoming assembly elections will be smooth like the parliamentary elections early this year. He also ensured that security forces are equipped enough to check infiltration as well as retaliate to any ceasefire violations along the international border. Three day Indo Bangladesh secretary level talks in Dhaka on cross border crime

Dhaka, Sep 3 (ANI): A team of Indian delegates led by Home Secretary, Anil Goswami, headed to Dhaka to attend the 15th Bangladesh-India Home Secretary-level talks on cross-border crimes and border management. Senior Secretary of Home Ministry, Mozammel Haque Khan, led the Bangladesh delegation. The two countries are expected to discuss issues on border crimes, border management, land boundary agreement, counter-terror initiatives and reopening of immigration points, besides reviewing progress and implementation of existing protocols and agreements. A Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral co-operation for prevention of human trafficking and rescue and rehabilitation of victims is most likely to be signed. Omar Abdullah promises to compensate families affected due to cross-border shelling

Jammu, Sept 03 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met the families affected by Pakistan's ceasefire violations along the international border and promised to amend the existing compensation SRO policy. He expressed regret over the fact that solely militancy affected families get relief funds, and not the ones which also suffer due to cross-border shelling. Abdullah added whoever has borne heavy losses due to damage to their crops because of exchange of fire will also be compensated with free ration for three months. Meanwhile, Abdullah also inaugurated a multi-level parking lot in Jammu. Poonch, Sept 02 (ANI): Residents of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan called for an end to ceasefire violations as they travelled back to their nation by bus after visiting relatives in Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir. The residents, passengers of a bus service between Rawalakot in Pakistan and Poonch, said on unless there is peace and tranquility along the Line of Control at the international border, people from both the sides would not be able to visit each other often. Mixed reactions flow as Rajnath says no white flag for Pak if ceasefire continues

New Delhi, Sep 01 (ANI): Mixed political reactions flowed on Monday as Home Minister Rajnath Singh gave a statement that India will not be ready for any friendly relations or talks until Pakistan stops violating the ceasefire along the Indo-Pak international border. Congress leader Manish Tewari said that the government does not have a policy for Pakistan and the Home Minister should clarify as to what he means by his statement. SP leader Naresh Agarwal slammed the government for showing softness towards Pak by inviting Nawaz Sharif to PM Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony. NCP leader Majid Memon welcomed the statement saying that Rajnath Singh has taken the correct decision and it will warn Pak. BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi said that Pakistan should understand that friendship and enmity cannot go hand in hand. Union Home Ministry reviews the security situation at Assam-Nagaland Border

Guwahati, Sep 01 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, who was in Guwahati to attend a meeting with the Chief Ministers of 8 Northeastern states, reviewed the security situation on Assam-Nagaland Border. He held talks with Assam and Nagaland Chief Ministers on the escalating border violence. Meanwhile, a curfew has been imposed in Golaghat following the clashes between the police and protestors. The Army also held a flag march in the violence hit areas to bring the situation under control. In addition to three companies of CRPF, 1,000 paramilitary personnel have been deployed and security pickets have been set up in the affected villages.
