Modi govt replaces Economic Affairs Secretary Arvind Mayaram with Rajiv Mehrishi

New Delhi, Oct 16 (ANI): In a major bureaucratic reshuffle, the central government has Transferred Economic Affairs Secretary Arvind Mayaram to the tourism department and appointed Rajasthan Chief Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi. Mehrishi will join as Economic Affairs Secretary from November 01. Mayaram, who had twin roles as both finance and economic affairs secretary and was appointed by the previous UPA government, has been shifted to the tourism ministry. Expenditure Secretary Ratan P Watal is likely to be the new Finance Secretary as he is the senior most among all the five secretaries in the Finance Ministry. Another significant transfer is of water resources secretary Alok Rawat. He has been moved to administrative reforms. Oct 16, 2014

Residents of Islamabad vow to carry forward Malala's mission

Islamabad, Oct 15 (ANI): Dozens of rights activists and residents of Pakistani capital took to the streets of Islamabad recently with lighted torches and candles to pay tributes to their young Nobel laureate, Malala Yousafzai. Malala, the Pakistani teenager, who was shot in the head by the Taliban in 2012 for advocating girls' right to education won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize on October 10, along with Indian campaigner against child trafficking and labour Kailash Satyarthi. Yousafzai, aged 17, becomes the youngest Nobel Prize winner and 60-year-old Satyarthi the first Indian-born winner of the accolade. Chanting "Provide education for children, or leave your chairs", the crowd demanded that the government takes on girls' education on a war footing. Yousafzai was attacked in 2012 in a school bus in the Swat Valley of northwest Pakistan by masked gunmen as a punishment for a blog that she wrote for the BBC's Urdu service as an 11-year-old to campaign against the Taliban's efforts to deny women education. Sports ministry felicitates Asian games medalists

New Delhi, Oct 14 (ANI): Sports ministry felicitated medal winners of 17th Asian Games which were held in Incheon. India won a total of 57 medals at the 17th Asiad, which includes 11 gold, 10 silver and 36 bronze and stood eighth in the overall medals tally. Sports Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, congratulated all participants of the Asian Games and said it was a proud moment for the country. Meanwhile, woman boxer, MC Mary Kom, whose win provided India its first gold medal in the ring at Incheon, thanked the ministry for having faith in her. Captain of men's hockey team, Sardar Singh, urged the ministry to keep providing required assistance to sportspersons.
