New Delhi, Feb 21 (ANI): Ministry of External affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin asked asked Italy government to beef up security at its embassy in Rome after the mission got a live bullet and several hate mails, in wake of diplomatic tensions over the trial of two Italian marines in New Delhi. Centre forms committee to look into the welfare of northeast people

New Delhi, Feb 20 (ANI): The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered a CBI probe into the murder of Nido Taniam, a college student from Arunachal Pradesh who died last month after allegedly beaten up by shopkeepers in the capital. The order came following a meeting between the victims’ parents and Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde. Following widespread outrage over the incident, the centre has recently announced the formation of a six-member committee to look into the concerns of northeastern people residing across the country.The committee, led by former IAS officer M P Bezbaruah will examine the cause for violence and discrimination against people from the Northeast and suggest measures to be taken by the government to address these concerns. Contact police if harassed in Delhi: Ninong Ering

New Delhi, Feb 18 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Ninong Ering urged northeastern students to contact police, if they are harassed by people in New Delhi, in the wake of an alleged diktat by a local body. Ering said this after a kangaroo court (khap panchayat) in New Delhi took a decision on Sunday to force northeast people to vacate the Munirka locality in the national capital. When asked about what is being done by the provincial ministry to provide safety to the northeasterners in Delhi, Ering said a helpline has been started exclusively for them to register their complaints.
