Arun Jaitley stresses on need for meaningful employment at second edition of Services Conclave

New Delhi, Nov 12 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday (November 12) stressed on the need for creation of jobs in the services and manufacturing sector in order to provide meaningful employment to the under-employed population. Jaitley was speaking at the second edition of Services Conclave in New Delhi. He also laid emphasis on services sector exports to compensate for the deficit in the merchandise exports. Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was also present at the event. Citing India's global expertise in the field of Information Technology (IT), Jaitley said this success had to be replicated in some other sectors too. Nay Pyi Taw, Oct 12 (ANI): India has filed an appeal in the Sri Lankan Supreme Court against verdict of the high court that awarded death sentence to five Indian fishermen in the island nation in a drug smuggling case. Five Indian fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in 2011 on charges of smuggling drugs and on October 30, the Colombo High Court held the five fishermen guilty of drug trafficking. Foreign ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin, while addressing mediapersons in Myanmar capital Nay Pyi Taw, said India was confident that justice would prevail in the case. Politicos condemn explosion in Kolkata

New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): Political leaders on Tuesday (November 11) condemned the deteriorating security in Kolkata city following an explosion near the office of federal counter-terror intelligence agency. A senior police official investigating the incident said no trace of explosive had been found in the area near the National Investigation Agency (NIA) office in the city. An interior ministry official had said according to preliminary information nobody had been injured. The official, who did not wish to be named, said the ministry planned to send a team from Delhi to investigate the matter. Newly-appointed Minister of State for parliamentary affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, called the incident unfortunate. Congress leader Rashid Alvi, demanded a thorough investigation in the case. Explosion near NIA Office in Kolkata

Kolkata, Nov 11 (ANI): A small explosion occurred near the office of National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Kolkata, police and interior office officials said. An officer at the police control room in Kolkata said the cause of the blast at the NIA office had not yet been established. Interior ministry official said preliminary information was that nobody had been injured. The NIA is currently investigating an earlier explosion in Burdwan, near Kolkata in October, that the agency believes was a botched plot by Bangladeshi Islamist militants to kill Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. A Kolkata court on Sunday gave the NIA custody of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) commander Sajid, a Bangladeshi national who West Bengal police arrested on Saturday in connection with the blast. PM Modi to visit Australia this week for G-20 summit

New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Australia from November 16-18 for G-20 summit later this week, said foreign ministry official. India wants to keep a so-called 'peace clause' that protects its huge state food purchases until the World Trade Organization can strike a definitive deal on stockpiling. As originally envisaged in Bali, the clause would expire in four years. India’s foreign ministry official Anil Wadhwa said Modi`s visit to Australia would improve and strengthen relations between the two countries. India would also discuss contours of an agreement between US, Japan, India and Australia to check Chinese influence in the region. The Prime Minister will hold delegation-level talks with his Australian counterpart Tony Abbott, and will address the Parliament in Canberra. He will have political-business community meetings in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. The Prime Minister will also participate in the G-20 Summit in Australia, following which he shall travel to Fiji after a gap of 33 years. New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka obtained a copy of the judgment that gave death sentence to five fishermen, said foreign ministry spokesperson in New Delhi. The court has convicted five Indian fishermen on the charge of drug trafficking. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that the embassy had approached best legal brains in Sri Lanka to appeal against the verdict. However, Akbaruddin refused to comment on the BJP leader Subramanian Swamy’s statement over the transfer of five fishermen to an Indian jail under a bilateral agreement.
