Thousands flee homes amid India-Pakistan clashes

JandK, Oct 08 (ANI): Thousands of Indians are fleeing their homes in the disputed Kashmir region as Pakistan continues to violate ceasefire along the border. About 7,000 villagers living around the village of Arnia area in Kashmir gathered in schools after five civilians were killed and dozens injured in shelling by Pakistani forces close to the border on Monday. Meanwhile, villagers from Samba region also fled their homes after cross-border firing started on Tuesday evening. In Kathua district, Deputy Commissioner, Doctor Shahid Iqbal, said camps were set up in schools for migrants. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday directed the administration to take all requisite measures for ensuring safety of life of people living close to the border. R S Pura, Oct 08 (ANI): Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Dr Jitendra Singh on Wednesday visited the border areas which had come under heavy mortar shelling and firing by Pakistan rangers along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. Singh said that a meeting has been held with the senior officers of the BSF and people have been quite vindicated. He added that people are feeling quite confident after BSF's befitting reply to the Pakistan rangers. He also said that the MLA's of the areas have made adequate arrangements for the affected people. BSF DG says India retaliating strongly to ceasefire violations

Jammu, Oct 8 (ANI): Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF) D K Pathak said on Wednesday that the Indian security forces have been retaliating very strongly to the ceasefire violations from across the border. Pathak also paid a visit to the Government Hospital in Jammu to meet civilians who were injured in the gunfire. The editorial piece in Saamna said that what was needed to protect the country was not a 56 inch chest but a will to do so. It further alleged that the PM Narendra Modi was not giving this issue the due attention and was instead busy attending rallies in Maharashtra ahead of the assembly polls. Thousands of people living on the international border have also stated to migrate to safer place as the Pakistan rangers last night again resorted to unprovoked mortar shelling and heavy firing on the BSF posts.According to BSF, over 50 BSF posts and nearly 30 border villages were affected by the fire from Pakistan side that restored at 8.30 pm last night.
