Smriti Irani seeks EU collaboration for open online courses, digital library

New Delhi, Nov 30 (ANI): Education Minister Smriti Irani on Sunday sought collaboration with the European Union in terms of massive open on-line courses system where the country's best institutions will provide undergraduate, graduate and post graduate courses free of cost to all citizens. While addressing a gathering after inaugurating the European Higher Education Fair in New Delhi on Sunday, Irani said her ministry launched the 'Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds' (SWAYAM), a web portal where Massive Open On-line Courses (MOOCs) will be available on all kinds of subjects. On this platform, all the IITs, IIMs, central universities and selected best colleges and institutions of India will provide undergraduate, graduate and post graduate courses free of cost to all citizens of our country, said Irani. Meanwhile, Irani said education will be made instrumental in India so that it carves out a niche in the world economy. Northeast festival in New Delhi sends a message of national integration part - 2

New Delhi, Nov 30 (ANI): ‘Insurgence to Resurgence’ was the theme of the 2nd edition of the “Northeast Festival - Connecting People, Celebrating life”, at the Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts in New Delhi. The 4-day long cultural extravaganza was organised by Trend MMS, with support from the eight northeastern states, Union Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of DoNER and the Northeast Community, Delhi. Sportspersons from the northeast who won medals at the recent Commonwealth and Asian games were felicitated at the inaugural session. Leaders, policy makers and various stakeholders came together for discussion sessions on critical issues including tourism, employment, business opportunities and investment in IT sector in Northeast. Fashion designers from the region put together a vibrant show showcasing the traditional weaving patterns, rich colorful fabrics and jewelry worn by the numerous tribes of the Northeast. Varanasi to soon turn into a smart city

Varanasi, Nov 29 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency Varanasi is drawing close to turn into a smart city, as urban development ministry laid out the plan of the ambitious project. Modi, who was elected in May to represent the 3,000-year-old riverside city of Varanasi, has taken personal responsibility to upgrade the holy city into India's one of the first smart cities. The organizers and businessmen who will be the part of the project were present at the 'seminar on intelligent cities'. Urban Development ministry Secretary, Shankar Aggarwal interacted with the people and officials involved with the ambitious project. Aggarwal said a smart city may have diverse significance for different groups belonging to various fields.
