Schools reopen in Kashmir as shelling stops at border

Rajouri, Oct 13 (ANI): Schools in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir have reopened after shelling stopped at the de-facto border between India and Pakistan. Schools along the border had been closed down amid continuous shelling. School head, Raees Ahmed, said that with the shelling having stopped, students are now coming to school. Meanwhile, a student, Habiba Kausar, said that peace should be maintained along the border so that education does not suffer. 20,000 Indian civilians have fled their homes in the lowlands around India's Jammu region to escape the fighting, taking refuge in schools and relief camps. Nine Pakistani and eight Indian civilians have been killed since security forces from both sides started heavy shelling more than a week ago along a 200-km (125-mile) stretch of border in Kashmir. New Delhi, Oct 13 (ANI): Political leaders on Monday said that Pakistan is 'playing its same old game'after Nawaz Sharif's foreign affairs adviser Sartaj Aziz wrote to United Nations asking to intervene in Kashmir issue. BJP said that Pakistan is doing what it has been doing on facing a defeat and that is, to internationalize the issue. Party leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that Indian government will continue to retaliate if Pakistan does not budge from its activities on international border. Meanwhile, Congress and CPI leaders also condemned the letter and said that Pakistan should check on its activities before blaming India. Addressing a letter to UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon, Aziz Aziz said UN had an important role in the peaceful resolution of the "core" issue of JandK and that UNMOGIP, described by India as a tool of a bygone era, needed to be strengthened under the circumstances. India makes efforts to send back Pakistani national who crossed border mistakenly

Jammu, Oct 12 (ANI): Officials of paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) are making constant efforts to send back a Pakistani national who had crossed the border mistakenly and was caught in Jammu region. A resident of Lahore, the old man had come towards Indian side to collect some medicines but was caught by BSF personnel in the wake of exchange of gunfire along the de facto border with Pakistan. BSF has been maintaining a high-alert along the India-Pakistan international border following the recent gun shelling. Deputy Inspector General of BSF, BS Kasane, said the old man has been identified as Mohammad Nadeer and has proved to be innocent after intense investigation was conducted against him.
