Hundreds of Kashmiri youth attend Indian army recruitment rally

Budgam, Dec 05 (ANI): Hundreds of youth, on Friday attended an army recruitment rally in Jammu and Kashmir. Around 9,000 youths participated in the rally, which was held in Budgam district. On the final day of the recruitment rally, written examination was conducted. After physical and medical tests, only 540 were allowed to give the written exam. A local youth, Mushtaq Ahmed, said employment was a major reason for them to attend the rally. A recruitment officer, Brigadier Adil Mehmood, said this recruitment rally gave employment opportunities in the valley, which was hit by devastating floods in September. Unemployment is a major issue in the conflict-torn region of Kashmir. During the election rallies in the poll-bound state, every political party has promised youth of employment. Dec 5, 2014

India plans to revamp age old postal network

New Delhi, Dec 05 (ANI): India plans to revamp age old postal network for extending services in the fields of banking, insurance and e-commerce in the country. Minister of Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad said that vast network of postal department must be leveraged to promote creativity. A task force on leveraging the post offices network of the country among others had suggested setting up of three subsidiaries as a part of a holding company under the postal department under the ministry of communication and information technology for extending services in the fields of banking, insurance and e-commerce. After releasing the report submitted by the task force, Prasad said that postal department needs to rediscover themselves. Mumbai, Dec 4 (ANI): After 70 days of bitter squabbling BJP and Shiv Sena once again came together and announced their alliance in Maharashtra. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday in a joint press conference announced that Shiv Sena will join his ministry. Fadnavis added that 12 ministers from Shiv Sena would take oath, five of cabinet rank and seven ministers of state. According to the media reports, the ministers will be sworn in on Friday. TMC protests against hike in fuel excise duty

New Delhi, Dec 3 (ANI): Leaders of Trinamool Congress (TMC) party, on Wednesday (December 03), staged a protest outside parliament against a hike in excise duty of petrol and diesel. India on Tuesday (December 02) raised excise duties on petrol by 2.25 rupees per litre and on diesel by one rupee per litre with immediate effect, the finance ministry said in a statement to parliament. The increases, which follow similar hikes in mid-November, seek to take advantage of a slump in world oil prices to shore up government revenues without stoking inflation. A source familiar with the matter said the latest measures were expected to raise an additional 40 billion rupees in the remainder of the fiscal year to the end of March 2015. Lucknow/Chandigarh, Dec 3 (ANI): Public sector banks employees in northern India went on a strike on Wednesday to demand wage revision, which caused inconvenience to people. The employees began their four-day relay strike with staff in southern region going off from work on Tuesday. The finance ministry also asked banks to ensure operation of clearing houses, continuation of Internet banking, and make arrangements for carrying out uninterrupted government business transactions.
