Cold wave grips North India as snowfall and rain continues

Shimla/ New Delhi, Dec 15 (ANI): Cold weather conditions intensified in northern India due to fresh snowfall and light rains. Temperatures in Himachal Pradesh and New Delhi plummeted as Shimla and Manali regions received snowfall, which also led to rainfall in the capital city. Shimla received season's first snowfall on Saturday making life difficult for people. Trees, roads and houses were covered in thick blanket of snow. The cold wave has troubled daily wage labourers and homeless people as they have no alternative to fight the chill. A resident of Shimla city, Dimple Chadha said water had frozen, hitting the supply. Another resident Dayanand said it snowed early this year. Meanwhile, people in New Delhi were also grappling with sudden dip in the mercury. Light rains accompanied with cold winds dropped temperature two notches below 20.8 degrees Celsius. Dec 15, 2014

Intense cold wave disrupts routine life in northern India

New Delhi/Kanpur, Dec 14 (ANI): Cold weather conditions intensified in New Delhi on Sunday after light rains occurred in some parts of the city a day earlier and mercury dipped further due to fresh snowfall and rainfall in upper regions. The cold wave has added to the troubles of daily wage labourers and homeless people as they have no alternative to fight the chill and earn their living. Chilly winds have also forced people in New Delhi to stay indoors within the warmer confines of their house. Indian Meteorological Department, had said that the cold conditions will prevail in northern India, bringing maximum temperatures below normal. Public sector bank relay strike hits northern India

Lucknow/Chandigarh, Dec 3 (ANI): Public sector banks employees in northern India went on a strike on Wednesday to demand wage revision, which caused inconvenience to people. The employees began their four-day relay strike with staff in southern region going off from work on Tuesday. The finance ministry also asked banks to ensure operation of clearing houses, continuation of Internet banking, and make arrangements for carrying out uninterrupted government business transactions.
