New Delhi, Dec 30 (ANI): Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday applauded Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi for facilitating induction of more northeast officers in Delhi police force. Rijiju along with Home Ministry officials visited the Delhi Police headquarters and discussed problems of the northeast people with senior police officers. Rijiju has decided to enhance the number of officers from the northeast in Delhi Police. He is also likely to write a letter to all northeastern states to encourage their youth to join Delhi Police. New Delhi, Dec 30 (ANI): Political leaders on Tuesday said that Pakistan's 'anti terror agenda' is not strong enough after 26/11 accused Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi was detained for the second time in Pakistan, a day after a court cancelled government orders to keep him in prison even after he was granted bail on December 18. Indian had reacted strongly to his bail and Ministry of external affairs had on Monday summoned Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit and expressed its strong displeasure over Lakhvi's imminent release. India summons Pak envoy over grant of bail to 26/11 mastermind Lakhvi

New Delhi, Dec 30 (ANI): Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit was summoned by the Ministry of External Affairs. Basit, however, refused to comment whether he was summoned by Indian foreign ministry. According to reports, Basit was summoned by the Indian foreign ministry to protest against a court order that could allow 26/11 mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi to leave jail. The Foreign Secretary conveyed strong concern at the lack of effective action by Pakistan's Prosecuting authorities after Lakhvi was granted bail by an Anti-Terrorism-Court. There was no comment from Ministry of External Affairs either, immediately. Lakhvi was put under house arrest immediately after the grant of bail. He remained in jail under Pakistan's Maintenance of Public Order. He had challenged his detention in the Islamabad High Court after the government rejected his plea for release. Dec 30, 2014

IIT-Delhi Director resigned because he was unmasked: Subramanian Swamy

New Delhi, Dec 29 (ANI): BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Monday alleged that the reason behind resignation by IIT-Delhi director Raghunath K Shevgaonkar more than two years before the end of his term, is because he was unmasked. He said that Shevgaonkar was appointed by UPA government and was caught for failing to inform the government of India of opening a branch of IIT in Mauritius. Swamy also alleged that the IIT Delhi director had violated code of conduct and IIT statutes and later tried to play the victim. Further, he also said that the order of his termination was held null and void and therefore his demand of his due salaries was not uncalled for. Yesterday, the Ministry of Human Resource Development had denied involvement over the resignation tendered by Shevgaonkar, adding that media reports to the contrary were 'factually inaccurate and incorrect'. Silk reeling center provides employment to rural women in Tripura

Tripura, Dec 29 (ANI): This silk reeling center at Badharghat in the outskirts of Agartala produces some of the finest quality silk which is high in demand. Cocoon from various silk rearing clusters and cocoon collection centers in West Tripura are collected here for taking out silk threads. Over 40 locals, mostly women are engaged at the centre in various stages of silk production and are able to earn well besides availing facilities like health insurance and pension. With help from the Central Silk board, the government-run centre has undergone modernization with eight semi-automatic reeling machines and other facilities. In 2012, the state's first power loom silk production center was started here as well. Over the years, both the Tripura and central government have been giving a lot of priority to boost silk production by introducing a number of schemes to encourage locals to take up sericulture. Reactions pour in after IIT-Delhi Director resigns alleging pressure from the government

New Delhi, Dec 28 (ANI): Reactions poured in on Sunday after Director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IITD) Raghunath K. Shevgaonkar resigned two years before the completion of his term. According to the media reports, the resignation came due to tremendous pressure from the ministry, which wanted to lend IIT ground to cricketer Sachin Tendulkar for opening a cricket academy. IIT Alumni Association Secretary CK Jain said that it is very unfortunate that government is trying to take IIT under it. IIT Alumni Association former President Subodh Jindal requested the government to take the director’s resignation back. AirAsia flight QZ8501 from Indonesia to Singapore missing with 162 on board

London, Dec 28 (ANI): AirAsia flight QZ8501 travelling from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore with 162 people on board has lost contact with air traffic control. The airlines' authorities said in a statement that the rescue operations and search for the flight were being conducted under the guidance of Civil Aviation Authority. An official with the transport ministry said that the plane lost contact over the Java Sea between Surabaya and Singapore. The Air Asia also said in a statement that 162 passengers and crew were onboard of which 1 is from Singapore, 1 from Malaysia, 3 from South Korean & 157 from Indonesia. Dec 28, 2014
