Devotees take holy dip in sacred rivers to celebrate 'Kartik Purnima'

Uttar Pradesh, Nov 17 (ANI): Devotees braved the chill and thronged the banks of rivers Ganges and Yamuna in Garhmukteshwar, Ayodhya and Allahabad towns, to take holy dip celebrating 'Kartik Purnima'. Devotees in large numbers converged on the banks of Sangam, the confluence of river Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati to take a holy dip in Allahabad city of Uttar Pradesh. On the eve of 'Kartik Purnima', the pilgrims camp by the riverside and decorate the entire riverbank with earthen lamps. A devotee from Garhmukteshwar, Kishan Kumar said that bathing in the sacred river helps in washing away their sins. Nov 17, 2013

Viswanathan Anand loses fifth game to Magnus Carlsen at World Chess Championship

Chennai, Nov 16 (ANI): Norway's Magnus Carlsen credited his opening moves for victory over India's Viswanathan Anand in a gruelling fifth game of the ongoing World Chess Championship in Chennai on Friday. The fifth game went on for over five and a half hours. Anand was playing with black pieces while Carlsen had white. Carlsen is ahead of Anand by 3-2. Just 22, Carlsen is considered the favourite after beating Anand in their last encounter in June. Anand, 43, however, is unperturbed. The two will play a total of 12 games till November 26 on a glass-encased, soundproof stage at a five-star hotel in Chennai. Their first four matches ended in draws. Nov 16, 2013
