Praising BJP's 'discipline', Krishna Tirath formally switches parties

New Delhi, Jan 19 (ANI): Praising the Bharatiya Janata Party's 'discipline', former union minister and Congress leader Krishna Tirath on Monday formally joined the BJP, vowing to continue her work towards the upliftment of the oppressed. Tirath had earlier in the day fuelled rumours of switching allegiances after meeting party chief Amit Shah in the national capital. According to media reports, a disgruntled Tirath had earlier sought a Congress Party ticket for one of her children to contest in the Delhi state assembly elections, but the central leadership of the party rejected the request. Till now, she was representing the North West Delhi constituency of Delhi as a member of the Indian National Congress (INC). She began her political career as a M.L.A in Delhi and was a member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly from 1984-2004. In 1998, she became the Minister for Social Welfare, SC and ST and Labour and Employment in the Sheila Dikshit-led Delhi government. Jan 19, 2015

Akbaruddin further stated that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had a fruitful discussion with Samaraweera, where the two leaders discussed issues on which both nations place importance. Earlier this month, Sri Lanka went to polls, with 19 candidates contesting the elections. Govt. accepts CBFC chief Leela Samson's resignation

New Delhi, Jan 17 (ANI): The government has accepted the resignation of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairperson Leela Samson. Samson had resigned following the clearance given by Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) to Dera Sachcha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh's film, 'Messenger of God'. She had alleged interference, coercion and corruption of panel members and officers of the Board who are appointed by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. Petrol price cut by Rs 2.42 per litre and diesel by Rs 2.25 a litre

New Delhi, Jan 16 (ANI): Oil marketing companies on Friday cut petrol prices by Rs 2.42 while it cut diesel price by Rs 2.25 per litre. Meanwhile, the government raised the excise duties on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 a litre. Retail pump rates will remain unchanged as the increase in excise duty neutralises the cut in petrol and diesel prices warranted from crude oil price slumping to about USD 46 per barrel. The increase, the fourth since Prime Minister Narendra Modi lifted diesel price controls in October' seeks to cash in on lower world oil prices to bolster strained government finances without stoking inflation.
