Melbourne, Nov 18 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited the 161-year-old Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to attend a reception and dinner hosted by Australian Prime Minster Tony Abbott. PM Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart posed for photographs with the 2015 Cricket World Cup Trophy, along with former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev among others. Modi also gifted an Indian "Skippers" Memento for Australia while at the MCG. The memento was signed by World Cup winning captains and the PM. Along with Australian PM Tony Abbott, present on the occasion were also Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, VVS Laxman and Allan Border. Modi later posted a selfie with his Australian counterpart saying, "With my friend @TonyAbbottMHR at the MCG." Agartala, Nov 18 (ANI): Militants killed two persons, including a border guard, in Tripura. The incident took place when Border Security Force (BSF) personnel went to fetch water in a civilian water tanker of the Coastal Construction Company to a nearby area. The BSF soldier was accompanied by two other civilians, including the driver of the water tanker. A group of militants ambushed the vehicle. The injured were airlifted to a hospital in Agartala, where the BSF soldier and one civilian were declared brought dead while the condition of another civilian is stated to be serious. Nov 18, 2014

India and China begin joint military training exercise in Pune

Pune, Nov 18 (ANI): India and China began their 'Joint Training Exercise Hand – in – Hand 2014" in Pune. The exercise that aims at focusing on counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism tactics comes weeks after a stand-off between their troops along the border in Ladakh region. Lt General Bobby Mathews of Indian Army and Lt general Shi Xiangyuan of the Chinese Army inspected the guard of honour during the exercise. Lt General Bobby Mathews said that both the countries will be greatly benefited from each other. The schedule for 12 days will focus on training on crossing of obstacles, firing of various weapons, handling and neutralisation of improvised explosive devices and conduct of cordon and search operations in insurgent areas. Students in Kashmir demand bridge construction as they have to cross river on boat to reach school

Rajouri, Nov 16 (ANI): School children in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir risk their lives to go to a school by crossing a river as there is no bridge over it. Students in Nadpur Dhallian village cross River Manawar on a boat everyday to get to their schools while locals also have to go by same mode to get to the other side. People complain that even after repeated complaints, the administration did not construct a bridge. A school teacher, Isher Singh said that if a bridge is built, more children would come from nearby villages to attend school. Singh also said that many parents feared sending their children to school as there were several incidents of children and villagers getting swept away or drowning in the river water. Meanwhile, the assembly polls in the state are scheduled to take place from November 25 and the five-phased elections will conclude on December 20. Counting of votes will take place on December 23.
