Security stepped up along border in wake of attacks in India's northeast

Kanpur/ New Delhi/ Assam, Dec 27 (ANI): Director General (DG) of Seema Sashtra Bal (SSB) or armed border force on Friday (December 26) said they would cooperate with army and police against the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), the tribal militant group that had shot dead more than 80 people in Assam this week. India has also sought help from Bhutan, Myanmar and Bangladesh in an offensive against the militant group. Some militants may have fled to neighbouring Bhutan while their leader is believed to be in Myanmar, officials and police said, prompting calls for cooperation. Meanwhile, SSB DG B.D. Sharma said the problem was intense in the region due to open border. India, Bangladesh begin border talks

Dhaka, Dec 26 (ANI): A four-day conference between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India's paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) began in Dhaka city on Friday. BGB Director General, Major General Aziz Ahmed, led a 23-member delegation and met BSF Director General Devendra Kumar Pathak, who was accompanied by 20-member delegation. Both the countries are expected to discuss issues relating to border security, smuggling, infiltration and curbing trans-border crimes. India, earlier this month, inched closer to settling a long-simmering border dispute with Bangladesh, possibly signaling a softer line from Prime Minister Narendra Modi than when he was in opposition. Imphal, Dec 25 (ANI): A powerful IED went off near a post of India’s paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) in Imphal, Manipur on Wednesday (December 24). Witnesses said nobody was injured in the blast. Police suspect the IED was equipped with a timer device. The blast occurred just a kilometre away from the 49 BSF Post located at Laikoiching area. BSF contingent, which was on a routine patrol, had a miraculous escape as the blast took place minutes after it went past the post. So, far no group has claimed responsibility for the blast and the motive behind it is not known yet.
