UN warns of worsening hunger crisis in Ethiopia

Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations is appealing for urgent aid for the people in Ethiopia, as Africas second most populous nation faces its worst drought in 50 years. The devastating drought sparked by the worst El Niño in records has driven Ethiopia to an alarming state of food insecurity and malnutrition, the agency said. Turkey: Police fire rubber bullets to break up Womens Day protest

Riot police forcibly broke up a rally of hundreds of women gathering in Istanbul to mark International Womens Day on 6 March. The women mounted their demonstration two days before the official Womens Day on 8 March despite a ban by the governor of Istanbul. Throngs of fleeing women could be seen running away from a police with shields firing rubber bullets into the crowd. Istanbuls governor had enacted the ban on demonstrations citing security concerns.
