Sukna land case: Lt Gen (retd) PK Rath gets clean chit

Bhubaneswar, Sept 06 (ANI): The Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) has quashed the court martial of former 33 Corps commander Lieutenant General P K Rath, one of the four generals indicted in the infamous Sukna land scam case that rocked the Army five years ago. The Court imposed. Rs 1 lakh fine on the Army for causing loss of honour to Rath. The Tribunal also blamed the respondents in the case which included former Army chief and current Union minister Gen. Rajnath Singh conducts aerial survey of flood affected areas in JandK

Onboard/ Jammu, Sept 06 (ANI): Amid the massive disaster created by floods and downpour in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday took an aerial survey of flood affected areas in the state. Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh accompanied Singh. In Jammu, the authorities closed four bridges connecting two parts of the city after they suffered damage as River Tawi flowed above the danger mark. Authorities had also declared a disaster alert after two days of heavy rain hit villages across the state, causing the worst flooding in two decades. Meanwhile, a flood-affected resident of Jammu said all the belongings in his house have been washed away by the flood water and they were asked by the authorities to evacuate the place. Sep 6, 2014

New Delhi, Sept 06 (ANI): Political leaders on Saturday reacted over, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's letter to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah seeking land for Kashmiri Pandits. Rajnath, in his letter to Omar suggested that the land may be identified near the respective native places the Kashmiri pandits migranted from. Rajnath Singh had also advised that such areas must be selected taking into consideration, the availability of adequate security in close proximity of the place. At present there are about 62,000 registered Kashmiri Pandit families in the country who migrated from the Kashmir Valley to either Jammu, Delhi or to other parts of the country due to militancy in the state in early 1990s. Assam Nagaland border calm after centre intervenes

Assam, Sept 06 (ANI): There have been no fresh incidents of violence and curfew has been relaxed in Golaghat district. Security continues to remain tight in the border area, with round the clock patrolling and army flag march. Meanwhile, the Chief Ministers of Assam and Nagaland have agreed to resolve the long pending border issues by setting up a joint mechanism, following a meeting with Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju in Guwahati. Both the state governments have assured that they will be working together to resolve the issue and restore peace in the disputed border area. The two sides have agreed to meet frequently and work jointly to defuse the tension and build confidence among the people living along the border. Enquiry committees have been constituted to look into the incident and 15 people have been apprehended in Nagaland. Munshiganj, Sept 05 (ANI): Women's wing of Bharatiya Kisan Union, a farmer's union, on Friday (September 05) protested in Munshiganj village of Uttar Pradesh, on being denied a meeting with Congress Vice President, Rahul Gandhi with whom they wanted to share their woes regarding scarcity of electricity and water for their fields. Munshiganj is located in the Raebarelli district of Uttar Pradesh, a constituency under the Congress President, Sonia Gandhi. Women in the area wanted to meet Sonia's son and scion of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty, Rahul Gandhi, to discuss the prevailing problems of water and electricity. Protesters blamed the government for ignoring the needs of the farmers and entering into business with industrialists.
