New Delhi, Aug 14 (ANI): While addressing and greeting the nation on the eve of Independence Day, President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday said that Freedom is a celebration and independence is a challenge. The President said that intolerance and violence is a betrayal of the letter and spirit of democracy and slammed those who believe in the "poison drip of inflammatory provocation". Talking about good governance, he said India needs creative thinking in governance that enables fast track development and ensures social harmony. He also said that the good governance involves participation by people and transparency on the part of the government. He appealed the political parties to keep the nation first and that the people should defend the secular fabric with vigour. The budget session which ran for more than a month was adjourned sine die after the announcement by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari. Finance minister terms parliamentarian award as peer recognition

New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee recently conferred the outstanding parliamentarian awards to three veteran leaders. India's Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Congress leader Karan Singh and regional party Janta Dal-United chief Sharad Yadav were honoured with the awards for the years 2010, 2011 and 2012, respectively. At a function organised by the Indian Parliamentary Group, President Mukherjee presented the awards to Jaitley, Singh and Yadav, while all the three turned very nostalgic about the past. Going down the memory lane, Jaitley said when he looks back it seems that he has come a long way. Meanwhile, Congress leader Karan Singh recalled his earliest association with the parliament, which dates back to 1950s. Delhi Police detain protesting UPSC aspirants

New Delhi, Aug 08 (ANI): Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) aspirants staged another protest on Friday in Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar, forcing Delhi Police to detain some of them. Yesterday, the Rajya Sabha had also witnessed uproar over the issue of the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) of the UPSC examinations. UPSC aspirants have been protesting vociferously against the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) examination, which was introduced in 2011, demanding that it be made easy for rural students. Earlier, in a bid to resolve the CSAT row, the government took a decision that the marks of English section will not be included for merit.
