Iraqi army captures ancient city of Nimrud from Isis during Mosul offensive

Iraqi soldiers are said to have recaptured Nimrud. The site of an ancient Assyrian city was taken over by Islamic State two years ago.Footage released by IS showed militants destroying 3,000-year-old relics and statues.The Iraqi government reported that Nimrud was bulldozed by IS last year.Nimrud lies about 20 miles south of Mosul, where Iraqi soldiers are fighting the IS.
