Nitin Gadkari denies chief ministerial post in Maharashtra

Nagpur, Oct 23 (ANI): Union Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari, on Thursday (October 23) denied chief ministerial post to head Maharashtra after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 122 out of 288 seats in state polls. Gadkari held a meeting with probable chief ministerial candidate Devendra Fadnavis in Nagpur city. Gadkari said he was happy to play his role in New Delhi, adding that people should not compare him with his party colleague and state unit of BJP in Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis. Asian Games medalists felicitated

New Delhi/ Manipur, Oct 23 (ANI): The medal winners of the recently-concluded 17th Asian Games met the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence. The Prime Minister congratulated the sportspersons and expressed hope that they will continue bringing laurels for the country. The medal winners were also felicitated by the Sports Ministry at an event in the Capital. Union sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Union minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju and other MPs were present at the event. While the gold medal winners were awarded Rs.20 lakh each, the silver and bronze medalists got Rs 10 and 6 lakh each respectively. The recently concluded Asian Games held in Incheon in South Korea saw India finish at the eighth position in the medal's tally. At a separate felicitation programme boxer MC Mary Kom was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of India's Incheon Asian Games campaign. The pugilist was awarded a cash prize of Rs.10 lakh by the organizers. About 39 BJP MLAs all from Vidarbha region had met Gadkari at his residence in Nagpur on Tuesday and demanded that he be made the state's chief minister. Union Cabinet passes ordinance to auction coal blocks

New Delhi, Oct 21 (ANI): The Union Cabinet on Monday passed an ordinance to auction the non-operating coal blocks, which were cancelled by the Supreme Court last month. The ordinance has been sent to President Pranab Mukherjee for his final approval. The cabinet also announced that Coal India's interests will be fully protected and only Indian companies will be allowed to participate in the bidding for the coal blocks. The government also moved to open up its coal industry to commercial mining while protecting the requirements of state-run Coal India, signalling the most serious shift in 42 years toward allowing private players' full participation in coal mining. The mines would also be allotted to public sector units such as the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC), which engages in electricity generation and allied activities. Oct 21, 2014
