SC bars N Srinivasan from participating in BCCI AGM on March 2

New Delhi, Feb 27 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday barred N Srinivasan from participating in the BCCI AGM on March 2. The decision effectively means that Srinivasan will not be able to contest the BCCI elections. He was seeking a second term as Board president. Further, the ICC chairman has also apologised to the Supreme Court for attending a BCCI working committee meeting in spite of a court order asking him to stay away from Board affairs till his "conflict of interest" charges were cleared. Cricket Association of Bihar Secretary and also a petitioner in the case, Aditya Verma said that Srinivasan has only been granted permission to cast his vote. Feb 27, 2015

Apex court pulls up N. Srinivasan for attending meet despite ban

New Delhi, Feb 23 (ANI): India's top court on Monday slammed Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief N. Srinivasan for participating in a cricket board meeting on February 8. Last year, the Supreme Court had asked Srinivasan to step down to ensure a probe into illegal betting during 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL), in which his son-in-law has been indicted. The involvement of Gurunath Meiyappan, who is married to the daughter of the BCCI president, in the illegal betting case was proved by a court-appointed committee. The committee had been set up by the Supreme Court. The court has asked for Srinivasan's stand by February 27. Feb 23, 2015

Couples from impoverished families tie nuptial knot at mass wedding in Allahabad

Allahabad, Feb 22 (ANI): Twenty-five couples from impoverished families tied nuptial knot at a mass wedding organized by Prerna Parmarth Ashram in Allahabad. Overjoyed couples, who were coming from economically and socially weak families, were happy at the series of events. The couples were married without any restrictions of caste and with the consent of their parents. Social activist Anurag Verma said that the aim of this mass wedding is to marry the children from poor families according to the customs and traditions of the society. Verma added that such mass weddings are funded by the small donations made by the people associated with the ashram. One of the bride said that she was happy to be wedded with all the rituals. The ashram also provided the newly-married couples with appliances required to run the household. Feb 22, 2015
