Shimla/ Chandigarh, Dec 14 (ANI): Almost two years after the gruesome rape of a 23 year old woman in the capital led to amendment of the laws for prosecution of rapists, women in other parts of the country say they don't feel that things have changed for the better. A resident of Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, Phalma Chauhan, said that she felt that since the Nirbhaya incident things had only gotten worse. However, Deputy General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, Sanjay Kumar did not seem to be in agreement with the girls. Since the Nirbhaya case, a number of shocking incidents have come to light, most recently the Uber rape case. A resident of Chandigarh said that for any effective steps to be taken in this direction, the political parties must stop indulging in mud-slinging. Dec 14, 2014

New Delhi, Dec 12 (ANI): Hundreds of cab drivers on Friday (December 12) held a protest in New Delhi, demanding the Central government to revoke the ban imposed on a few cab companies, which they said was affecting their business. The Central government has requested that all state governments ban Uber and all other unregistered, web-based taxi companies from operating due to passenger safety concerns after one of the Uber Company's drivers was arrested for allegedly raping a young female passenger. Bengaluru bans unregistered cab companies in wake of Uber Rape Case

Bengaluru/Gurgaon/New Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI): Bengaluru on Thursday banned unregistered cabs in the wake of alleged rape of a female passenger in New Delhi by a driver of US cab company Uber. The transport administration in Bengaluru has taken strict measures aimed at preventing crimes against women professionals travelling in cabs by monitoring taxi drivers. The department is also insisting that all cabs are fitted with GPS. Police have also issued notices to all cab operators in the city to undergo police verification by December 31 or face action. Telangana bans Uber cab services after Delhi rape case

Hyderabad, Dec 10 (ANI): Telangana on Wednesday banned the US-based Uber cab services, days after Delhi rape case by a driver employed with the company. The move came after India ordered state governments to halt the operations of all unregistered, web-based taxi companies on Tuesday. In state capital Hyderabad, police officials and the transport authority are stopping taxis and checking them. The move in India was followed by separate government and court actions against Uber in Thailand, Spain and the United States on a variety of issues. A representative for Uber said the company had not been officially notified of any ban in New Delhi and would issue a statement. It was still possible to hail an Uber taxi in Delhi using the company's smartphone application. Dec 10, 2014
