PSU bank employees go on nationwide strike over wage revision demand

Bhopal/ Kanpur/ Lucknow/ New Delhi, Nov 12 (ANI): Public sector banks across India called for a day long nationwide strike on Wednesday demanding the long pending increment in the employees' wages. The strike has been called under the banner of an umbrella organisation of banks, United Forum of Bank Union. According to the media reports, much against the 23 per cent wage hike demand by the bank employees, Indian Banks' Association offered an increment of 11 per cent, which led unions to call for a strike. The protesters in New Delhi assembled outside various banks and shouted slogans demanding a revision in their salaries. Expressing resentment, an employee of National Organisation of Bank Workers, Ashwini, said around nine bank unions, 800,000 bank employees and more than 50,000 branches are on strike. The employees have been awaiting their salary revision since November 2012 but are yet to hear an official announcement from the government. Meanwhile in Kanpur city, bank union leader Pradeep Vajpayee said the conditions in which bank employees work are deteriorating. Nov 12, 2014

Aligarh, Nov 11 (ANI): Aligarh Muslim University's (AMU) Women's College Students Union President Gulfiza Khan said on Tuesday that instead of imposing restrictions on girls, the college authorities should introduce safety measures. University's vice chancellor Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah has rejected the demand of students of Women's College for access to the organization's Maulana Azad Library. He said that if girls were permitted in, there would be "four times more boys" in the library.
