Petrol & Diesel prices cut by Rs 2 per litre each

New Delhi/ Mumbai, Dec 16 (ANI): Petrol and diesel prices were on Tuesday cut by Rs 2 per litre each as international oil prices slumped to five-year low. This is the eighth straight reduction in petrol prices since August, and fourth in diesel since October. New rates were effective from midnight, Indian Oil Corp, the nation's largest fuel retailer had announced. In Delhi, petrol now cost Rs 61.33 a litre, the lowest in 44 months, as compared to previous price of Rs 63.33. The price has been cut by Rs 2.09 a litre in Mumbai to Rs 68.86. Diesel now cost Rs 50.51 a litre in Delhi, the lowest since July 2013, as against Rs 52.51 previously. In Mumbai, it costs Rs 57.91 per litre as compared to earlier Rs 60.11. Meanwhile, consumers in both Mumbai and the national capital were elated by the cut in prices and credited Modi government for the same. Dec 16, 2014

Shimla/ New Delhi, Dec 15 (ANI): Cold weather conditions intensified in northern India due to fresh snowfall and light rains. Temperatures in Himachal Pradesh and New Delhi plummeted as Shimla and Manali regions received snowfall, which also led to rainfall in the capital city. Shimla received season's first snowfall on Saturday making life difficult for people. Trees, roads and houses were covered in thick blanket of snow. The cold wave has troubled daily wage labourers and homeless people as they have no alternative to fight the chill. A resident of Shimla city, Dimple Chadha said water had frozen, hitting the supply. Another resident Dayanand said it snowed early this year. Meanwhile, people in New Delhi were also grappling with sudden dip in the mercury. Shimla/ Chandigarh, Dec 14 (ANI): Almost two years after the gruesome rape of a 23 year old woman in the capital led to amendment of the laws for prosecution of rapists, women in other parts of the country say they don't feel that things have changed for the better. A resident of Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, Phalma Chauhan, said that she felt that since the Nirbhaya incident things had only gotten worse. However, Deputy General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, Sanjay Kumar did not seem to be in agreement with the girls. Since the Nirbhaya case, a number of shocking incidents have come to light, most recently the Uber rape case.
