Union Cabinet pays homage to Assam attack victims, Rajnath Singh to visit state

New Delhi, Dec 24 (ANI): Union Cabinet on Wednesday paid homage to victims of attacks at five different places in Assam wherein more than 40 people lost their lives. The cabinet ministers maintained silence for the lost souls and prayed for peace. Home Minister Rajnath Singh along with Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju announced that they would visit Assam this afternoon to take stock of the situation. Earlier, curfew has been imposed in parts of Assam after the attack by the suspected NDFB (Songbijit) militants. Meanwhile, people staged protest outside of Assam Bhavan in Delhi against the attack and demanded action by the state and central government over the same. Dec 24, 2014

The Centre's announcement on Bharat Ratna awards comes a day ahead of the veteran BJP leader's birthday, which falls on December 25. Congress leader G Venkat Swamy passes away after prolonged illness

New Delhi, Dec 23 (ANI): Former union minister and senior Congress leader G Venkat Swamy passed away at a private hospital in Hyderabad. Swamy, 85, had been in poor health for some time and was undergoing treatment but on Sunday his condition got worse. Popularly known as 'Kaka', the leader was elected to the assembly of the undivided Andhra Pradesh in 1950 and held several key positions in the government as well in the party. He served in the Indira Gandhi and PV Narasimha Rao Governments and also was Pradesh Congress Chairman for Andhra Pradesh. Swamy was also elected to the state assembly twice and seven times for the Parliament. Venkat Swamy's two sons, Vinod and Vivek are active in politics and in Congress party. Dec 23, 2014

Meanwhile, Vice-President Hamid Ansari and former Union Minister Ajit Singh paid floral tributes to Chaudhary Charan Singh at his Samadhi 'kisan Ghat". A painting exhibition has been organized at Kisan ghat in memory of the former prime minister. Singh was born in a Jat family in 1902 in village Noorpur of Hapur district in Uttar Pradesh. New Delhi, Dec 22 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Monday as Janata Parivar staged a protest against the government at Jantar Mantar, over issues of Black money, unemployment, farmer issues and communal tensions in the country. Minister of State Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that no one would raise an objection if the ministers would stage a peaceful protest over the issues. However, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that Janata Parivar is not a Parivar or union and that they will dilute after next Lok Sabha elections.
