India, Vietnam Sign Seven Agreements

Vietnam, Sep 16 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee and Vietnam President Truong Tan Sang witnessed the signing of seven agreements and memorandums in Hanoi, including one made by Petro Vietnam and India's Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Videsh. India and Vietnam have deepened military cooperation over the past decade and under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is pushing ahead with a new strategy to establish itself as an arms exporter using export credits to leverage foreign sales. Addressing the news conference, Secretary (East) Ministry of External Affairs, Anil Wadhwa, emphasized on the need to step up people to people exchanges between the two nations. Gifted by Indian President, Bodhi' tree sapling gets place in Vietnam's Presidential palace

Vietnam, Sep 16 (ANI): Invoking "common heritage" with Vietnam, Indian President Pranab Mukherjee gifted an offshoot of the holy 'Bodhi' tree to Vietnam counterpart Truong T?n Sang and planted it in Vietnam's Presidential palace after the two leaders finished delegation-level talks and signed seven pacts. The sapling was carried in a small wooden box as a gift to the country and people of Vietnam. It was procured from the Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) a few days back. India has been traditionally gifting saplings of this gigantic tree to countries it has strong bonds of trust and friendship. Sep 16, 2014

President receives warm welcome on arrival in Vietnam

Vietnam, Sep 15 (ANI): President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, received a warm welcome on arrival at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, capital of Vietnam, on a four-day visit to strengthen bilateral ties. The visit will mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Mukherjee was also given the ceremonial guard of honour. He is scheduled to hold talks with the Vietnam Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung and his counterpart, Truong Tan Sang, on issues of international, regional and bilateral importance. Mukherjee, during the visit, will also gift a sapling of the holy 'Bodhi Tree' to the country to symbolise the strong and growing partnership between India and Vietnam. Sep 15, 2014
