Singapore, Rajasthan sign water management pact

Jaipur, Feb 26 (ANI): Singapore and Rajasthan signed a joint water management agreement in pink city of Jaipur. Singapore Foreign Minister K Shanmugam and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje were present during the signing between the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) set up by the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore, and the Public Health Engineering Department of the Government of Rajasthan. The agreements that were signed included water management and governance of waste water treatment, which is expected to help the desert state to achieve a sustainable water management system. Shanmugam said the joint venture would see development not only for Rajasthan but also for Singapore in the long run. Raje said she hoped the programme would help strengthen ties between the two countries. Feb 26, 2015

Sushma Swaraj meets Father Alexis Prem Kumar

New Delhi, Feb 24 (ANI): Union Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday met Jesuit priest Father Alexis Prem Kumar, who was released eight months after being held captive in Afghanistan. He was accompanied by his family as they sat with Swaraj and exchanged pleasantries. The 47-year-old Jesuit priest was kidnapped by unknown gunmen from Herat in June last year and was being held as a captive. He arrived in New Delhi on February 22 after the Indian government managed to secure his release. He had thanked the government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the support. The Indian foreign ministry had said it was a difficult eight month period and India had pursued the matter quite relentlessly and thanked everybody involved in the process. Feb 24, 2015

Kashmir tourism board organizes adventure camp to woo back tourists

Srinagar, Feb 24 (ANI): The tourism board of Jammu and Kashmir, in collaboration with a private institute, has organised a mountaineering camp in the state to woo back tourists and promote adventure tourism in the Valley. Tourism in the state was badly hit in September last year after the state witnessed its worst ever floods in decades. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands of villages were devastated in the floods. Aru valley in Pahalgam, also known as mini-Switzerland, has been a popular destination among foreign tourists for adventure sports. The authorities are putting special focus to develop this region. Aru valley, replete with exotic flora and fauna, is the starting point for various trekking routes including the one to Kolahoi glacier and Sonmarg. Thrill seekers from across India are participating in this camp and learning a range of activities under the supervision of professional trainers.
