LJP Chief Ram Vilas Paswan on Bihar's political crisis

Patna, Feb 8 (ANI): Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Sunday reacted on the ongoing political tussle in Bihar. Paswan said that the JD (U) had made Manjhi a chief minister sans any power and therefore his rebellion was justified. Nitish, who was elected as the leader of JD (U) legislature party at a party meeting held in Patna yesterday, is expected to stake claim to form a new government in the state soon. On Saturday evening, Manjhi called a meeting of the state cabinet, which authorized the Chief Minister to recommend the dissolution of Bihar Assembly. But this move was strongly opposed by 20 ministers loyal to former CM Nitish Kumar. Manjhi claimed he is authorized to take a decision on dissolution of the assembly. Meanwhile, Manjhi is expected to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the latter's official 7, Race Course Road (RCR) residence later in the day. Feb 8, 2015

Men from Dubai, Pak 'hired' for Sunanda's murder, claims Subramanian Swamy

New Delhi, Feb 8 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Sunday alleged that Sunanda Pushkar's murder was carried out by men hired from Dubai and Pakistan, and added that former union minister and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor should undergo custodial interrogation in this case. Pushkar, who married Tharoor in 2010, had checked into The Leela Hotel in Chanakyapuri a day before her death on January 17, 2014. Tharoor's aides said the couple had checked into the luxury hotel because of renovation work at his New Delhi bungalow. Prior to her death, Sunanda was embroiled in a spat with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar, whom she accused of stalking her husband. Feb 8, 2015

PM Modi chairs first meeting of newly created NITI Ayog in Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 8 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday (February 08) chaired the first meeting of the governing council of National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) in New Delhi. The formation of the forum was announced on August 15, 2014 by Modi during his maiden Independence Day address from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort. Modi has accused 65-year-old Planning Commission of stifling growth with Soviet-style bureaucracy. The NITI will act more like a think tank or forum, in contrast with the Commission which imposed five-year-plans and allocated resources to hit set economic targets. Feb 8, 2015

New Delhi, Feb 05 (ANI): The newly-appointed Home Secretary LC Goyal met Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday. Earlier in the day, Goyal replaced Anil Goswami as the new Home Secretary following a controversy over the arrest of a former union minister in connection with the Saradha chit-fund scam. Goswami was earlier on Wednesday was sacked from his post for allegedly interfering with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over the arrest of Matang Sinh in connection with the Saradha scam. New Delhi, Feb 05 (ANI): LC Goyal has replaced Anil Goswami as the new Union Home Secretary, following a controversy over arrest of former Union Minister involved in Saradha chit fund scam. Anil Goswami, earlier on Wednesday, was sacked for allegedly interfering with the Central Bureau of Investigation over the arrest by the agency of Saradha Scam accused Matang Sinh. According to reports, Goswami had earlier in the day been summoned by the Prime Minister's Office over the issue and was invited to put forth his version. Goswami, a 1978 IAS officer, was due to retire in July after serving a two-year tenure and was the first bureaucrat from Jammu and Kashmir to rise to the post of Home Secretary. Feb 5, 2015

Protest held in Delhi against attacks on churches

New Delhi, Feb 05 (ANI): A huge protest was held in Delhi on Thursday over the series of attacks on churches in the national capital. Shouting slogans for justice, agitators demanded immediate action against those responsible for the attacks. Police have detained few protestors for violation of Section 144 before elections. St. Alphonsa's Church in Vasant Kunj was the latest church attacked in the capital on Monday. Following the attack, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued notices to the Secretary, Union Home Ministry, Chief Secretary, Government of NCT of Delhi and the Commissioner of Police, Delhi calling for detailed reports including the status of investigation into allegations of desecration of the sanctity of the St. Alphonsa's Church.
