India fully prepared to tackle swine flu, says health ministry

New Delhi/ Ahmedabad, Feb 26 (ANI): Union Minister of State for health, Shripad Naik said that all measures to combat swine flu were in place amid rising cases of H1N1 virus. Health Minister JP Nadda had made a statement in both houses of parliament regarding the swine flu situation in the country. He said that teams were sent to guide and assist state governments on H1N1 virus as per need. Naik said apart from the regular medicines, his ministry was also supervising the usage of traditional medicines. Meanwhile, in bid to prevent swine flu from spreading, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, prohibiting mass gatherings without prior permission, has been imposed in Ahmedabad city. Swine flu is caused by H1N1 virus. Symptoms for swine flu include high fever, headache, muscle pain, diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach pain and internal and external bleeding. Feb 26, 2015

Sushma Swaraj meets Father Alexis Prem Kumar

New Delhi, Feb 24 (ANI): Union Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday met Jesuit priest Father Alexis Prem Kumar, who was released eight months after being held captive in Afghanistan. He was accompanied by his family as they sat with Swaraj and exchanged pleasantries. The 47-year-old Jesuit priest was kidnapped by unknown gunmen from Herat in June last year and was being held as a captive. He arrived in New Delhi on February 22 after the Indian government managed to secure his release. He had thanked the government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the support. The Indian foreign ministry had said it was a difficult eight month period and India had pursued the matter quite relentlessly and thanked everybody involved in the process. Feb 24, 2015

Ordinances cannot bypass Parliament: Jaitley on Land Acquisition

New Delhi, Feb 24 (ANI): Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday said that Ordinances and laws cannot bypass the Parliament adding that the government was well within its rights to take the Ordinance route, amidst an uproar in the Rajya Sabha over the Land Acquisition Bill. Congress leader Anand Sharma, however, shot back saying Jaitley expected the Parliament to rubber stamp the Ordinances. The government is today introducing the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Bill, 2015 in the Parliament to replace the Land Acquisition Ordinance. The government had last year in December circulated the ordinance which had brought changes in the previous bill passed in 2013 by the UPA regime. Earlier in the day, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge had termed the Land Acquisition Bill as 'anti-farmer' and added that his party will counter it tooth and nail by taking support from all the opposition parties.
