Tetseo sisters from Nagaland popularize Naga folk music

Nagaland, Oct 5 (ANI): Meet the Tetseo sisters! One of the most popular female bands from Nagaland. They sing songs known as "Li" (folksong) in the Chokri dialect of the Chakhesang tribe of Nagaland that tells stories of Naga people, their joys and sorrows, hopes and aspirations. They started practicing music in their school days and have not looked back since then. They specialize in folk music and aim to keep it alive among the youth. The Tetseo Sisters comprise four siblings – Mercy, Azi, Kuvelü and Lulu. The sisters released their first album of acoustic songs called "Li" Chapter One "The Beginning" in 2011. During their performance they use age-old Naga string instrument known as "Tati or Heka Libuh". They have performed in different places across the country and abroad. Two Maoists surrender before BSF in Odisha

Malkangiri, Oct 03 (ANI): Two rebels working for Communist Party of India-Maoists surrendered before paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) in Odisha on Friday. It is an achievement for BSF which has been trying to tackle the Maoist insurgency in Malkangiri district of Odisha. The Maoists, who have been identified as Laxman Pujari and Chaitanya Harijan, surrendered before BSF Deputy Inspector General, KV Raghavacharyulu, at a surrender ceremony at the BSF sector headquarters. Tangkhul Naga Community welcomes freshers to Delhi

New Delhi/ Nagaland, Sep 24 (ANI): College admissions are over and it's time to welcome the freshers. Under the theme of 'Emerging Youths, Emerging Talents' Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Delhi (TKLD) organized the 11th edition of "Yarthot Kazip" or fresher's meet at Thyagaraj stadium. Music, dance and fashion parade - the fun filled affair was attended by many Tangkhul Naga community and students. The celebrations not only aimed at making freshers comfortable but also were meant to introduce them to their seniors and others Nagas residing in the national capital. MP from Nagaland Neiphiu Rio also addressed the event. A group of Student performed the Tangkhul folk song in colorful traditional attire. During the event many young artists showcased their talent in singing and dancing. The audience was mesmerized by their performance. Later, Music bands like Epistles, Towering Faith and Red Light Passengers gave rocking performances. PETA clashes with Fashion, demands for ban on animal tested cosmetics in India

New Delhi, Sep 18 (ANI): Animal rights advocates of PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) staged a protest at India Gate in New Delhi on Thursday demanding ban on sale of animal tested cosmetics products across Indian markets. Chaitanya Koduri, Science Policy Adviser for PETA India urged the Health Minister Harsh Vardhan to ban the sale of cosmetics products, which are being tested on animals abroad, across the country. However, Koduri said that in India animal testing has been banned since May 2014. According to PETA, in laboratories abroad, animals are routinely mutilated and used in various experiments especially for cosmetic products which are being supplied and sold in Indian markets. United Naga Council in Manipur lifts ban on National projects and Traffic

Manipur, Sept 12 (ANI): The civil organization, United Naga Council (UNC), in Manipur on Friday lifted its indefinite ban on national projects in the state and on vehicular traffic on national highways. The UNC had called for a shutdown from 6 am in Ukhrul district on September 04 to protest against the killings of two civilians, Mayopam Ramror and VS Ramkasing by security forces. An expert, Professor Amar Yumnam, said that the state government imposed 144 CrPC in such a way that it jeopardized the situation. "Fragrances of the Northeast" festival promotes films, food and craft of the region in capital Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 07 (ANI): The three-day long film festival at Siri Fort Auditorium complex in Delhi attracted a large crowd. Inaugurated by Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar, the festival showcased eight films from the Northeast. They included Jhanu Barua's Assamese film Ajeyo and Pradip Kurbah's Khasi film Ri: A Homeland of Uncertainty. Several film personalities from the northeastern states were felicitated during the event. On the opening day, Assamese singer and composer Papon along with his band 'The East India Company' enthralled the audience. He sang a number of his hits in Assamese, Punjabi and Bollywood songs as well. Internationally-acclaimed Naga pianist and singer Nise Meruno and choir group "Nagaland Singing Ambassadors" also mesmerized the audiences with their dazzling performances. Central govt deploys additional forces in strife-torn Manipur

Imphal, Sep 06 (ANI): NDA government deployed additional forces in strife torn northeastern Manipur state in wake of the road blockade called by a Naga group. Home Ministry rushed additional forces to assist the local administration and a top official to take stock of the rising tension. The additional paramilitary forces were sent to Manipur to be deployed along the national and state highways to ensure law and order in the state. Earlier, Rajnath Singh had reviewed the situation with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and discussed preventive measures to ameliorate hardship of the people of Manipur. Shutdown in Manipur continues for second day

Manipur, Sep 05 (ANI): Security has been stepped up as shutdown called by United Naga Council (UNC), in Manipur entered second day on Friday (September 05), to protest against recent killings of civilians by security forces. On August 30, two civilians were killed and 26 injured in violent police firing to control a rally protesting against the imposition of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) 144 in Ukhrul district. The resolution to impose a ban in the state was passed on Monday (September 01) after UNC President, L Adani, convened a high level meeting with representatives of Naga Civil Organisations and chiefs of different Nagaland tribes.
