Waziristan caught in the crossfire

North Waziristan, June 02: Failure of peace talks early this year between the Pakistan Government and the Taliban has resulted in army action in North Waziristan. In one of the deadliest air strikes, Pakistan armed forces claims to have killed some 80 hardcore militants in a mountainous region bordering Afghanistan, known as a stronghold of Taliban and al Qaeda-links militants. Army said the strikes were aimed at those involved in recent attacks against the Pakistani armed forces. However, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, Imran Khan, expressed his "serious concerns" over military strikes in tribal areas and termed it a clear beginning of a full-fledged military operation in the region. Imran Khan appeals to Pak army chief for revival of dialogue with Taliban

South Waziristan, May 28 (ANI): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, Imran Khan has appealed to the country’s army chief not to carry out any military operation in Waziristan and to revive peace talks with the Taliban . Last week, Pakistani forces launched rare air strikes against Taliban militants holed up in the remote, tribal belt near the Afghan border after several rounds of government-led talks aimed at ending an insurgency in the remote region failed. Although the government has said no decision for a full scale military operation in North Waziristan has been taken, on May 22, the military backed that up with the first major ground offensive against the Taliban. Imran Khan said the military offensive was turning the patriotic residents of Waziristan against their country. May 28, 2014
