India fully prepared to tackle swine flu, says health ministry

New Delhi/ Ahmedabad, Feb 26 (ANI): Union Minister of State for health, Shripad Naik said that all measures to combat swine flu were in place amid rising cases of H1N1 virus. Health Minister JP Nadda had made a statement in both houses of parliament regarding the swine flu situation in the country. He said that teams were sent to guide and assist state governments on H1N1 virus as per need. Naik said apart from the regular medicines, his ministry was also supervising the usage of traditional medicines. Meanwhile, in bid to prevent swine flu from spreading, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, prohibiting mass gatherings without prior permission, has been imposed in Ahmedabad city. Swine flu is caused by H1N1 virus. Symptoms for swine flu include high fever, headache, muscle pain, diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach pain and internal and external bleeding. Feb 26, 2015

Congress workers distribute free masks, medicines to combat swine flu

Ahmedabad/ Jaipur/ Siddharthnagar, Feb 22 (ANI): Workers of Congress party distributed free masks and medicines to residents in Gujarat as a precautionary measure to fight swine flu. India has seen a sharp rise in the number of swine flu deaths and reported cases this year. Nearly 700 lives have been claimed in the country due to the disease. More than 11,000 people, including children, reportedly took part in the campaign organised by Congress party. In view of the swine flu rush, the Central government last week had placed an order to increase the national stock of diagnostic kits to test for the virus. Lucknow, Feb 20 (ANI): Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda said on Friday that there is no need to panic about swine flu and that there is an adequate stock of medicines to deal with the pandemic. He added swine flu medicines were being sold by registered stores only but that did not mean there was a scarcity of the cure. Nadda also stressed on the need for personal hygiene and building up immunity to tackle the disease which spreads more in winters. Government says no need to panic even as swine flu toll hits 700 mark

New Delhi, Feb 20 (ANI): Even as India witnessed a steep rise in the number of swine flu cases in recent days, Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth said that there was no need to panic, adding that the government was taking measures to ensure proper treatment to patients. The H1N1 virus has claimed nearly 700 lives in the country and the number of people affected by it has crossed 10,000 mark, say reports. Seth said that delay in treatment was amounting to rising casualties. Seth said that he was in touch with officials to ensure consistent supply of medicines and other medical equipments to government hospitals. He has also directed drug controllers of various states to ensure availability of necessary vaccines, along with guidelines for usage and treatment protocol. Paramilitary force organises camp in Maoist-hit areas of Jharkhand

Latehar, Feb 15 (ANI): Paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) organised a health camp in Maoist-affected villages of Jharkhand. CRPF personnel, as a part of civic action programme, distributed free medicines and utensils to the poor in 200 Maoist-hit villages in Latehar district. According to villagers, they are constantly under Maoists attack threat but are relieved after a police station was built in Herhanj area. Meanwhile, CRPF doctor Anil Kumar Singh said that their work was to provide proper medical assistance to villagers. The rebels have operated for decades across a wide swath of central and eastern India, and grew in strength during recent times in areas where poor, tribal villagers came into conflict with mining companies seeking resources for industrialisation.
