Nation pays tribute to Indira Gandhi on her 30th death anniversary

New Delhi, Oct 31 (ANI): The nation is paying tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 30th death anniversary on Friday. Congress Party President and Indira Gandhi's daughter-in-law Sonia Gandhi and members of her family were the first to reach Shakti Sthal, the memorial dedicated to Indira Gandhi to pay a floral tribute. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was also present at the venue. Other leaders and people from all walks of life are expected to follow. Indira Gandhi fell to assassins' bullets on this day in 1984 at her 1, Safdarjung Road residence in New Delhi. She was killed by her Sikh bodyguards more than four months after Operation Blue Star, which was launched on the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Functions will also be held at the Indira Gandhi Memorial at 1 Safdarjung Road. Meanwhile, President Pranab Mukherjee also paid tribute at Shakti Sthal to mark Indira Gandhi's death anniversary. New Delhi/ Hyderabad, Oct 31 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday flagged off 'Run for Unity' at the Rashtrapati Bhavan to mark Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birth anniversary. The residents and staff of Rashtrapati Bhavan, along with the President's Bodyguard, the army guard and the Delhi Police participated in the run. A Unity pledge was also administered by Omita Paul, secretary to the president, to all the staff members prior to the run. Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh flagged off 'Run for Unity' in Hyderabad to mark the birth anniversary of Patel. Vietnam's Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung arrives in India for two-day visit

Gaya, Oct 27 (ANI): Vietnam's Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung, arrived in India on Monday to enhance ties and regional cooperation and began his two-day visit by landing in Bihar. Dung, who was accompanied by a 50-member delegation, was received by Bihar Chief Minister, Jitan Ram Manjhi, in Gaya city. During his visit in the state, Dung will pay homage at Mahabodhi temple in holy town of Bodh Gaya, where Lord Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment. He would also visit the Vietnam Buddhism Pagoda in the town. Both the countries could sign at least a dozen pacts to boost cooperation in sectors like energy, infrastructure, trade and tourism. Dung will hold talks with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and other leaders. Union Cabinet passes ordinance to auction coal blocks

New Delhi, Oct 21 (ANI): The Union Cabinet on Monday passed an ordinance to auction the non-operating coal blocks, which were cancelled by the Supreme Court last month. The ordinance has been sent to President Pranab Mukherjee for his final approval. The cabinet also announced that Coal India's interests will be fully protected and only Indian companies will be allowed to participate in the bidding for the coal blocks. The government also moved to open up its coal industry to commercial mining while protecting the requirements of state-run Coal India, signalling the most serious shift in 42 years toward allowing private players' full participation in coal mining.
