Sikh outfits protest against release of 'MSG' film

Jammu/Chandigarh/ New Delhi, Feb 13 (ANI): Activists of a regional outfit on Friday (February 13) staged protest against release of the film 'The Messenger of God' (MSG), portraying self-styled spiritual leader and chief of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. Members of the Jammu and Kashmir Sikh United Front (JKSUF) shouted slogans against Singh and burnt posters of 'MSG' as the film hits the silver screen on Friday. The film, which features the self-styled spiritual leader in jewel-studded costume riding motorbikes, drew severe criticism in Punjab and led to violence in some parts. In view of the film's release, police in Chandigarh have beefed up security to avoid any untoward incident. Kejriwal's AAP swept Delhi assembly elections on Tuesday by bagging 67 of the 70 Assembly seats, the biggest ever tally for any party in the capital. In view of the huge demand, shops are stocking up poll-related memorabilia like coffee mugs and key chains with either Kejriwal's name or image imprinted on them. Srinagar, Feb 12 (ANI): Life returned to normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday after four consecutive days of shutdown and curfew in the region. Shops and markets reopened in summer capital Srinagar and other major towns of the valley. A shopkeeper, Bashir Ahmad, said his business was affected with the shutdowns and urged for permanent solution. Separatists had called for shutdown to mark second anniversary of hanging of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. Besides, Hurriyat Conference had appealed people to observe a complete shutdown as a youth, named Farooq Ahmad Bhat, was killed when forces allegedly opened fire on a group of stone-pelting protesters in Palhallan area of north Kashmir on Monday (February 09).
