President Mukherjee and top Congress leadership reach Shanti Van to commemorate Nehru's 125th birth

New Delhi, Nov 14 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee and Congress President Sonia Gandhi reached Jawaharlal Nehru's Samadhi at Shanti Van on Friday, to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of the country's first prime minister. Along with Congress president were party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. A similar function has also been organised at the Teen Murti Bhavan in the evening. Later in the day, President Mukherjee will give away awards to children for their achievements. An international conference, being held to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Nehru is also to take place from November 17-18 and will be attended by leaders of various political parties from India and abroad. However, the Congress has not invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the conference. Meanwhile, PM Modi also paid his respect to Nehru. Nov 14, 2014

New Delhi, Nov 09 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday finally expanded his Council of Ministers and reshuffled his Cabinet for the first time after taking over as the Prime Minister of India in May. The new ministers took the oath of office at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the presence of the NDA ministers and the prime minister himself. President Pranab Mukherjee administered oath to the ministers as their names were being announced at the grand function. The first to take oath was Manohar Parrikar who is tipped to get the defence portfolio. Following him were Suresh Prabhu, JP Nadda and Ch Birender Singh who took oath as Cabinet Ministers. Thimphu, Nov 09 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday said the government had doubled the scholarship amount to Bhutanese students during his two-day visit. Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and other dignitaries were present at the event where Mukherjee unveiled a school project and a 546-km road project with India’s assistance. Addressing a convention in capital Thimphu, Mukherjee said there was a deep confidence and trust between the two countries and people. Three agreements were signed. One between the Royal University of Bhutan and the National Innovation Centre in India, another between the Royal University of Bhutan and the University of English and Foreign Languages in India and the third between the Royal Civil Service Commission and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM). He said that India's relationship with Bhutan is an "exemplary" one that takes care of each other's concerns and vital interests. Mukherjee also called upon both nations to earnestly take up their role within SAARC for advancement of the region and for global peace. Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, along with his Cabinet colleagues, was present during the function. Four more projects have been taken up now as joint ventures between public sector undertakings of India and Bhutan, the foundation stone of the first such project being laid by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he visited Bhutan in June. President Pranab Mukherjee leaves for Bhutan on two day visit

New Delhi, Nov 07 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee left for Bhutan on his two day visit aiming at the agreement on Bhutan providing assistance in revamping ancient Indian Nalanda University. During a news conference by India’s foreign ministry in New Delhi, Venu Rajamony said one of the most important aspects of his foreign trips is to promote educational exchanges with foreign countries. Foreign secretary to president, Sujatha Singh said at the invitation of his majesty the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Mukherjee would be in Bhutan on a state visit from November 07-08.
